BIMA Legal Support Hub
Specialist legal protection, exclusively for BIMA members.
Welcome to our legal support area for BIMA members
A healthcare career comes with more than clinical challenges. This is especially so for healthcare professionals from ethnic minority backgrounds, who are statistically more likely to be referred to their regulator for fitness to practise concerns compared to their white colleagues.
The rise in Islamophobia and anti-Muslim rhetoric exacerbates this problem, increasing the likelihood of a Muslim healthcare professional being subjected to local disciplinary and regulatory fitness to practise investigations.
That's why BIMA has partnered with us at Regulation Resolution. We are a specialist firm representing healthcare professionals in disciplinary, fitness to practise and inquest cases, and we are happy to offer you this high calibre of support as a BIMA member.

Kashif Mahmood - Senior Consultant Solicitor
Kashif Mahmood, Senior Consultant Solicitor, is our primary point of contact for all BIMA members. Kashif qualified as a solicitor in 1999.
Experienced in both sides of regulatory proceedings, Kashif is a highly skilled and strategy focused defence lawyer.
Experience in the medical defence field
Kashif's career includes working as a prosecuting lawyer for the General Medical Council in its fitness to practise directorate. In 2012 he moved exclusively to defending healthcare professionals as a lawyer for one of the largest medical defence organisations in the UK, the Medical Protection Society. Kashif was promoted to Lead Legal Adviser at MPS and was responsible for managing a team of in-house lawyers alongside a personal caseload of complex and sensitive cases.
These cases included allegations of serious clinical misconduct, dishonesty, sexual misconduct, seriously inappropriate behaviour, and adverse health. Kashif has successfully advised and represented hundreds of healthcare professionals in regulatory, disciplinary, and coronial proceedings. His cases include representing Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba at her hearing before the Medical Practitioners Tribunal, resulting in her being allowed to return to practise medicine without restrictions.
When not representing his clients, Kashif works with organisations like BIMA to advocate for a fairer system of regulation/governance of healthcare professionals: one that supports and values the diversity of its workforce.
