Sexual Misconduct Suspension Lifted – Fitness to Practise Restored

We acted for a paramedic facing a review of a six‑month suspension imposed for historic, sexually‑motivated misconduct towards colleagues, including inappropriate messages and boundary breaches in the workplace. At the original hearing, his conduct had been found to amount to serious misconduct and his fitness to practise was found impaired on both the personal and public components, leading to a time‑limited suspension.

For the review, we worked with him to deliver exactly what the previous panel had indicated would be required: sustained engagement, targeted CPD focused on professional boundaries, harassment and ethics, and detailed reflective work showing developed insight into the impact of sexualised behaviour on colleagues, the team and public confidence. He also demonstrated a changed approach to managing stressors, a stable work record outside healthcare with no further concerns, and a plan for how he would conduct himself and challenge inappropriate behaviour in future practice.

At the review hearing, the HCPC adopted a neutral position, indicating it was content for the order to lapse. The panel accepted our submissions that he had made tangible progress, now had genuine insight, had addressed the root causes of his behaviour and presented a very low risk of repetition. It concluded that his fitness to practise was no longer impaired on either the personal or public components and allowed the suspension to expire with no further order, enabling him to return to unrestricted practice.

A review of a suspension is your chance to show you have done exactly what the previous panel required. Sustained engagement, targeted CPD and detailed reflective work evidencing real insight can allow a suspension to lapse.
