Sara Mason

Sara Mason is a highly accomplished senior solicitor and medical law expert, offering more than three decades of specialist legal experience to healthcare professionals. Sara was called to the Bar in 1992 and admitted as a solicitor in 1997, after achieving an MA with distinction in Medical Law & Ethics from King’s College London, where she won the prestigious Sir Eric Scowen prize for academic excellence.

Across her wide-ranging career, Sara has acted for doctors, GP practice nurses, and other clinicians in a diverse array of legal contexts. Her regulatory practice covers complex fitness to practise matters at the General Medical Council, Nursing & Midwifery Council, and General Dental Council, including representation at Interim Orders and Medical Practitioners Tribunals, alongside judicial review and appeal work. She is equally specialised in representing healthcare professionals in criminal cases, from interviews under caution to trials for serious allegations such as murder, manslaughter, and sexual offences.

Sara is widely respected for her expertise in inquest representation too, routinely supporting clinicians through all stages of coronial proceedings, from correspondence and evidence review to advocacy at Pre-Inquest Review Haerings and inquests and advice on professional obligations arising from inquest outcomes. Her experience further extends to advising in MHPS investigations, upon NHS England processes and challenging their actions at the First-tier Tribunal, guiding doctors through Prison Ombudsman investigations, and successfully contesting Disclosure and Barring Service Minded to Bar decisions.

Previously a lay member of the Clinical Ethics Advisory Group at Guys and St Thomas’, a Trustee and Secretary for the UK Clinical Ethics Network, and committee member for the Association of Regulatory and Disciplinary Lawyers, Sara is recognised not only for her contribution to the profession but for her practical, compassionate support of clients and her robust and tenacious defence of their interests.
