Biography
Tamara Krupski-David is a regulatory defence lawyer whose practice spans two closely related fields: the defence of solicitors and law firms in SRA investigations and proceedings before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal, and the defence of healthcare professionals in fitness to practise matters before the healthcare regulators. In both, she acts with an advantage few defence practitioners can offer. More than 17 years spent inside the regulators, at the most senior levels of investigation, enforcement and decision-making.
Tamara was formerly Head of Legal & Enforcement at the Solicitors Regulation Authority, where she was accountable for the effective conduct of investigations, regulatory decisions and outcomes, and led a team of lawyers handling the SRA’s enforcement caseload. She personally conducted the most serious and complex matters, including those involving sensitive, high-profile or novel issues, and acted as an authorised decision maker on regulatory decisions, on referrals to the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal and on the review of decisions. For solicitors under investigation, that experience translates directly: Tamara understands how the SRA assesses seriousness, what evidence moves a case toward or away from referral, and how and when to engage most effectively.
Her healthcare regulatory practice is built on close to eight years at the General Dental Council, latterly as a Senior Lawyer, where she managed a team of presentation lawyers, senior paralegals and trainee solicitors and led on complex fitness to practise investigations, restoration applications and appeals in the High Court and Court of Appeal. Her work there extended beyond casework to risk identification and mitigation, strategic project delivery and service improvement across the legal function.
At the General Medical Council, Tamara had conduct of numerous complex and high-profile fitness to practise cases, preparing them to a high evidential standard, instructing counsel and experts, and presenting cases through counsel before the tribunals of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service. Her caseload included proceedings concerning an inappropriate relationship with a vulnerable patient, a large-scale police investigation into fraudulent personal injury reporting, and allegations of misconduct against a maxillofacial surgeon — all extensively reported in the national media. She also acted for the GMC in statutory appeals, including successfully resisting a High Court appeal advanced by leading counsel on grounds of tribunal bias and inadequacy of reasons, and advised across the organisation on disclosure, evidential sufficiency and the treatment of older allegations.
Tamara was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of England and Wales in 2012, following the Qualified Lawyers Transfer Test, and was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of South Africa in 2005. She holds an LLB from the University of South Africa and a BA in Politics and English from the University of Cape Town. She also holds a certificate in the ILM-recognised Essential Investigation course. Clients value her clarity of analysis, her judgement in sensitive and reputationally significant matters, and her ability to see a case exactly as the regulator sees it.
